NEW LITERACY COURSE OFFERED AT CASTELÃO CONSTRUCTION SITE
On January 9, the inaugural class of the Literacy Course and grades 1 to 4 was held in the Castelão Consortium. In partnership with SESI’s Quem Estuda Cresce program, 35 students will have classes Monday through Thursday, from 5h30 to 7h30 pm at the cafeteria of the construction site admin office.
The program aims to provide interested workers with the opportunity to further their education, giving them, in the long run, better opportunities in the labor market. As an incentive to education, the Consortium will provide a staple food basket to all students who attend 100% of the monthly classes and extra two-hours of pay whenever a worker attends a class.
“I had to start working at an early age to help my parents and wasn’t able to study. Now the Castelão Consortium is offering this opportunity, and I’m very excited. I’ll make the most of this opportunity,” says Márcio Roberto Carvalho Silva (janitor).
Students’ education levels will be assessed in the first two months of the program. From there, modules will be taught based on the workers’ levels and the progress of the group
